Hailed by Pepe Romero as a ¡°wonderful musician and guitarist¡± who he believes will ¡°grow into a great artist,¡± Jennifer Kim is already developing an international reputation at the young age of fifteen. As a Grand Prize Winner of the 25th Annual Spotlight Awards held in May 2013 and sponsored by the Los Angeles Music Center, Ms. Kim performed at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, home of the LA Opera. In 2012 she was awarded the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Young Artist Award as well as 1st Prize in the Indiana International Guitar Competition (Senior Youth Division), and was co-winner of the Pacific Arts Guitar Competition at the age of ten. Jennifer was selected to appear on the syndicated PBS radio program ¡°From the Top¡± in December of 2012 in a live performance sponsored by Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota at the Sarasota Opera House.
In 2012 Jennifer was awarded 3rd place in the Christopher Parkening International Young Guitarist Competition, at age 13 - the youngest competitor. She has been a prize-winner in the American String Teachers Association¡¯s National, and Regional Junior competitions, the 2010 Guitar Foundation of America International Youth Competition, and she was a recipient of the Vadah Bickford Scholarship from the American Guitar Society.
Ms. Kim began guitar lessons with her father at the age of eight and has studied with Los Angeles¡¯ Jack Sanders since 2008. She has performed in master classes for renowned guitarists Pepe Romero, Manuel Barrueco, Christopher Parkening, Angel Romero, William Kanengiser and Roland Dyens. Her performances have included the Loyola Marymount University Young Artists Showcase, Korean American Guitar Society performances, Trilogy Guitars in Los Angeles, the Sacramento Convention Center, Orange County Guitar Circle Showcase concerts, and the Balboa Peninsula Music Festival. Additionally, she has concertized in Korea and performed on Radio Korea.
Appearances in the current season include performances of Rodrigo¡¯s Concierto de Aranjuez at the 90th Gala Celebration of the American Guitar Society and, in her debut with orchestra, with the Mill Valley Philharmonic in March 2014, under conductor Laurie Cohen.
